Just to keep things civil, I told her that I would pay for 6 months in advance, but that I might move out anywhere between 3-9 months from now. She gladly took my money and didn't inform me of any company policies at that time. Three months later I came to check out. I told her to just mail the difference to my home. ONLY now does she point out a very small sign ( about 1 inch by 8 inches) hung by a chain in an inconspicuous place that said "NO REFUNDS". She did not bother to tell me that when I told her that I might move out early and gave her 6 months rent. She said it was also in my contract. I didn't sign any contract. The employee that was there the day I signed up entered everything into the computer. I didn't even have to show an ID. I certainly didn't sign any contract.
The owners are often found at the counter. But God help us if we do business with any hired help. One of these non-owner employees was there when I checked inI went to the storage facility and asked for a 5x5 locker. I was given a 5x10 space instead. She said that was all they had. I was told that I had to buy these specialized locks from them because they were the only locks that would fit the doors. When I arrived at the locker, I realized any one of my 30 normal locks would have worked just fine. I paid a couple of months in advance. After about 3 months, I noticed that I had not received a bill so I stopped by to ask why. They had entered my address in the system incorrectly. The owner was there. She seemed very upset at me because I was only paying for a 5x5 but was using a 5x10. When I explained that I hadn't asked for this, but was given it, she still seemed as though she were mad at me. She charged me late fees for the month that I was behind. She also insisted that the address was incorrect because I MUST have given it to them wrong. Every time I had cause to stop by after that she made it a point to exclaim that she was losing money on my unit. I offered to move to the 5x5 and she said it wasn't worth the trouble. But mentioning it every time I can in certainly WAS worth the trouble.
So I tell her, "Well, if I don't get a refund, then don't take me out of the system." If I was paying for it I figured I had the right to use the unit later. Even if it was empty, it was paid for. But she said no, that she had already removed me from the system. She smiled, however, when she told me that she would be happy to rent me another 5x10 at regular price if I needed it.
I have filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau and have taken the time to leave this review to warn others that there are several other choices for you in the Marianna area. Most of them WILL refund money on unused time. And all of them are certain to be more professional that these people. Don't choose Pak-Rat when you have several other choices. I have stored in LOTS of self-storage units. I have never been treated with such disrespect.
Don't store your stuff here. Aside from the roaches and mice (both alive and dead) that I found in my unit when I vacated, I found them to be of ill character.
